Root Canals
When a cavity is allowed to grow very deeply into a tooth, the nerve of the tooth can be penetrated. Sometimes the nerve becomes inflamed and painful and sometimes it actually dies and putrifies inside the tooth, and this causes an abcess or an infection in the bone at the end of the roots. In such cases the organic material (the nerve and the blood vessels) must be cleaned out, disinfected, and the resulting space in the roots sealed off. This is often called a
root canal. There can be other problems that require a root canal treatment such as tooth fractures or other trauma to a tooth.
In almost all cases this is something we can handle in office without an outside referral.
